Money raised will help make young carers futures brighter.

30 July 2019

This week our featured fundraiser is the West Berkshire Young Carers Project who works with families to help reduce the extra responsibilities of young carers, so they can focus on being children. They are raising money so they can fund a young carer’s activity group.

A young carer is someone under 18 who helps look after someone in their family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol. These extra responsibilities force children to grow up far too early, losing out on their childhoods and potentially their education.

Joe Sutton, Young Carers Project Worker said:

“We are fundraising though the West Berkshire lottery to make these young carers futures brighter and to give them a far better chance in life. Money raised will go towards funding the cost of a young carers activity group to reduce their isolation and give them a break from caring. It will also help towards providing dedicated services to carers such as counselling or mentoring.”

To find out more about the West Berkshire Young Carers Project or support their cause through the lottery go to https://www.westberkshirelottery.co.uk/support/west-berkshire-young-carers-project. 50% of all ticket sales made through their fundraising page will go directly to them and the work they do.
