Our 6 month celebrations get off to a good start with a 10km hike with Flag DV!

17 September 2019

At this end of the September, it will be six months since the first ever West Berkshire Lottery draw, and to celebrate, throughout September the lottery team have planned to visit a variety of our good causes and charities at various events.

On Monday 16th September, Councillor Jeff Cant, portfolio holder for the lottery, visited local charity Flag DV as they prepared to take on a 10km hike around Reading as part of the Legal Walk.

The Legal Walk is an annual fundraising event organised by the London Legal Support Trust to raise funds for Age UK, Citizens Advice, Reading Refugee Support Group and also Flag DV.

Flag DV (Free Legal Advice Group for Domestic Violence) is a legal advice charity for victims of domestic violence or abuse. The advice offered for victims of domestic violence is 100% provided for by volunteers. Flag DV used the money they had raised through the lottery to purchase items to promote their participation in the event.

Louisa Fiddler, Growth & Development Manager for Flag DV said:

“The monies raised from West Berkshire lottery has helped us to buy our new marketing banner, t-shirts and lanyards to walk with to raise more awareness of the charity.”

The Flag DV team consisted of Louisa, Cassandra, Samantha, Laura, Liz, and Lisa. Not forgetting their four legged team mascot, Ralf! They completed the walk in 1 hour 45 minutes and celebrated with a well-deserved drink at the finish line!

So far the team has managed to raise over £1,000 through their walks fundraising page with that sum rising! 27 teams and 200 walkers in total took part in the event and raised over £7,000 for their charities.

If you would like to contribute to Flag DVs fundraising, you can here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/FLAGDV2019 or if you could support them on their West Berkshire Lottery page https://www.westberkshirelottery.co.uk/support/flag-dv

50p from every £1 lottery ticket bought through their page goes directly to them and will help them to continue to offer their invaluable service to the community.
